Anthony Edwards made a strong push in the second half on Sunday night to keep the Minnesota Timberwolves season alive, but it wasn't enough. Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks, who had largely shut down Edwards and the Timberwolves early on, secured a 116-107 victory in Game 3 of the Western Conference finals at the American Airlines Center. This win gives the Mavericks a commanding 3-0 series lead, putting them just one win away from their first NBA Finals appearance since 2011.
Doncic and Kyrie Irving were pivotal once again, combining for 66 points and leading a crucial 14-3 run to close out the game, including a key corner 3-pointer by Irving. Doncic has averaged 32.7 points per game in the series, with Irving scoring at least 30 points in two of the three games.
Despite losing center Dereck Lively to a neck injury in the second quarter, the Mavericks maintained a 60-52 lead at halftime. Edwards helped Minnesota tie the game in the third quarter with a 13-3 run and an impressive dunk over Daniel Gafford, but the Mavericks pulled away in the final minutes.
Edwards finished with 26 points, nine assists, and nine rebounds. Doncic led Dallas with 33 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, while Irving added 33 points. The Mavericks shot 16-of-28 from three-point range.
