Legendary Dance Music Label King Street Sounds Relaunched by Armada

Armada Music, a prominent figure in the dance music scene, has unveiled the revival of the iconic New York-based house music label, King Street Sounds. Armada’s BEAT Music Fund acquired the label in 2023. The relaunch involves a fresh visual identity, the debut of a remix series titled “King Street: Beat Match,” new flagship releases, and a collaborative venture with Beatport to narrate the label’s rich history.

Founded in 1993 by Hisa Ishioka, inspired by the vibrant atmosphere of NYC disco Paradise Garage, King Street Sounds derives its name from the club's location on King Street in Lower Manhattan. Ishioka, who moved from Japan to New York in the 1980s, was deeply influenced by resident DJ Larry Levan and other luminaries of the scene like Francois K and David Morales. The label boasts a notable catalog including hits such as “Most Precious Love” by Blaze featuring Barbara Tucker and “How Do I Let Go” by Dennis Ferrer, along with releases from artists like Kerri Chandler, Ultra Nate, and Mood II Swing.
