Lynette Woodard, one of the most remarkable women's basketball players in history, made her mark during her four seasons at Kansas four decades ago, rewriting the record books and carving out a path to a Hall of Fame career.

A native of Wichita, Kansas, Woodard arrived at the University of Kansas in 1977. She concluded her collegiate career with 3,649 points, the highest tally ever recorded by a women's college basketball player at that time, trailing just 18 points behind the men’s career scoring leader, LSU's Pete Maravich. In 1981, she clinched the Wade Trophy, awarded to the nation’s top women's college basketball player, and earned Kodak All-American honors four times.

Woodard captained and was the second-leading scorer for the United States as Team USA secured the gold medal in basketball at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The following year, she made history by becoming the first woman to play for the Harlem Globetrotters.

Her professional career extended to the WNBA's Cleveland Rockers and Detroit Shock before she retired from basketball in 1999. Woodard was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2005.
