After numerous false starts, a customary occurrence with Kanye West releases, the controversial artist, alongside Ty Dolla $ign, has finally unleashed their album "Vultures 1". Released in the early hours of Saturday morning, the album's absence from Spotify raises eyebrows, although it is accessible on most other major streaming platforms.

Contributors to this latest project reportedly include Lil Durk, Bump J, Freddie Gibbs, Playboi Carti, Travis Scott, Quavo, and West’s eldest daughter, North. While credits may be incomplete on certain platforms, Genius.com provides a comprehensive list of collaborators, along with explicit and occasionally offensive lyrics.

The album is purportedly the inaugural installment in a trilogy initially slated for release on Thursday, with the second volume expected on March 8, and the third following on April 5. However, consistent with West's recent history, deadlines often prove elastic, if not entirely elusive; his 2018 project, "Yandhi," notably failed to materialize.

Released under West’s Yzy brand, the absence of traditional record label credits is conspicuous. West severed ties with longstanding collaborators Def Jam Recordings and Sony Music Publishing in 2021 amid mounting controversy surrounding his behavior. This culminated in a series of deeply troubling antisemitic remarks that led to the collapse of numerous branding agreements and alienated all but his most devoted supporters.

Reports suggest West and Ty Dolla $ign were in search of a distributor for the album, although securing support from major music companies seems improbable. Nonetheless, a digital-only release can proceed without a prominent partner.

Similar to West’s previous album, "Donda," the release of "Vultures" was preceded by a series of high-profile listening events in major cities, including Chicago and the New York City borough of Queens. Notably, the album seems to have omitted the controversial sample of a live Ozzy Osbourne recording of Black Sabbath’s "Iron Man," which caused uproar from Osbourne and his manager-wife Sharon. Their condemnation stemmed from West’s antisemitic remarks, leading to their refusal to clear the sample. Additionally, Nicki Minaj declined to clear the use of their 2018 collaboration "New Body," which was reportedly intended for inclusion on the album. Complications also arose regarding the use of the Backstreet Boys song "Backstreet’s Back."

Variety's review of the album, which has evolved with each public airing, is set to be published in the coming days.
