Taylor Swift Teases New ‘Vault’ Track from ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)
Taylor Swift is known for her clever and cryptic clues that she drops for her fans before releasing new music. The pop superstar has recently shared a new teaser video on her social media platforms that hints at one of the five previously unreleased songs that will be included in her re-recorded version of her iconic 2014 album, 1989.
The video features a silver vault that opens to reveal a series of letters, an exclamation point, and quotation marks. The letters are T, S, U, and L, which could spell out different words depending on how they are arranged. Swift captioned the video with a lyric from her hit song Blank Space: “You can tell me when the search is over… if the high was worth the pain.”
Swift’s loyal fanbase, also known as Swifties, quickly started to speculate and decode the meaning behind the teaser. Some of the most popular theories are that the letters stand for “Lust” or “Slut”, which could be the title or a lyric of the new song. Some fans also pointed out that the seagulls that appear in the video are also featured on the cover art of 1989 (Taylor’s Version), which was revealed last month.
Another possible clue that fans have noticed is that singer and actress Sabrina Carpenter liked Swift’s teaser video on Instagram. Carpenter, who is best known for her role in Girl Meets World and her music career, has been rumored to be collaborating with Swift on one of the vault tracks. Carpenter’s 2022 song Because I Liked A Boy contains a line that says “Now I’m a home-wrecker, I’m a slut”, which could be related to Swift’s Blank Space lyrics about having “a long list of ex-lovers”. Carpenter also opened for Swift at some of her recent concerts in Mexico as part of her Eras Tour.
Swift has also partnered with Google to create a puzzle game that allows fans to unlock more clues and information about the vault tracks. The game requires fans to complete puzzles based on Swift’s lyrics and album covers. According to Pop Base, Swift will reveal the titles of the vault tracks once 33 million puzzles are completed.
1989 (Taylor’s Version) is set to be released on October 27, 2023, which is the ninth anniversary of the original album. The re-recorded album will contain 19 tracks, including five songs from the vault that Swift has described as “insane”. The re-recording project is part of Swift’s effort to reclaim ownership and control of her first six albums, which were sold by her former label without her consent.
Swift has already released three re-recorded albums this year: Fearless (Taylor’s Version), Red (Taylor’s Version), and Speak Now (Taylor’s Version). These albums have featured collaborations with artists such as Phoebe Bridgers, Ed Sheeran, Fall Out Boy, and Hayley Williams. Fans are eagerly awaiting to hear what surprises Swift has in store for them with 1989 (Taylor’s Version), which is widely regarded as one of her best and most successful albums.
