The Weeknd Collaborates with Madonna and Playboi Carti on New Idol Song "Popular": Listen Now

Madonna and Playboi Carti have joined The Weeknd on the next track from his HBO program, The Idol. "Popular," which follows the Weeknd and Future's lead tune "Double Fantasy," will also feature on the The Idol, Vol. 1 soundtrack album when the program premieres in June. The whole soundtrack will be available on June 30. Listen to the new song down below.

In a recent interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, the Weeknd stated that the song began as a duet with Playboi Carti. "We've had a different version of this song before. So I've had these vocals for a long and I've simply worked around them and kept it in the tuck. But suddenly it seemed like it was time." He described Madonna as "the ultimate co-sign for this song."

"I've always wanted to work with her," he said. "I've always wanted to write and produce a Madonna album...okay, co-produce with her." She's a genius with a distinct vision, and I just want to enter her universe and make a classic Madonna record. That was always my ambition. Hopefully, this is the appetizer."

Playboi Carti was arrested earlier this year for allegedly assaulting and choking his pregnant girlfriend. His lawyer said he was falsely accused.
