The music event, which kicks out on June 22 near Rothbury, Michigan, will have an expanded security presence, including K9 units.
Following a shooting at Beyond Wonderland on Saturday (June 17), which left two people dead and several injured, Electric Forest is beefing up security ahead of the festival this weekend.
The Michigan electronic music event guaranteed of "increased safety oversight and protocols" in a statement sent to the Electric Forest social media on Monday (June 19). All participants will notice its presence across the event grounds and campsites."
The event, which will take place at the Double JJ Resort in Rothbury, Michigan, will also feature specialized Festival K9 units made up of "highly trained dogs and their skilled handlers [that] have undergone rigorous training in firearm detection amidst a large crowd and in challenging environmental conditions."
Electric Forest organizers stated that they "work year-round with large-scale event security professionals such as Michigan State Police, local law enforcement agencies, and the FBI to provide a safe environment for our patrons, staff, and artists."
This statement (read in full below) follows the shooting at the electronic music festival Beyond Wonderland, which took place at The Gorge Amphitheater in George, Washington, at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. The incident occurred in the festival's tent area, with the attacker firing randomly into the crowd. Before officials arrested the gunman, two individuals were murdered and three more were injured.
Insomniac Events, the Los Angeles-based dance festival events firm behind Beyond Wonderland, is a partner in Electric Forest, a camping festival as well. Electric Forest, produced by AEG, will take place in the remote hamlet of Rothbury and will kick off on Thursday with headliners ODESZA, Illenium, Zeds Dead, Above & Beyond, and The String Cheese Incident.
