The Elden Ring boss comments on the potential Bloodborne remake and highlights the advantages of patience for leveraging new hardware.
Hidetaka Miyazaki, the boss at FromSoft, has recently discussed the potential for a Bloodborne remake and emphasized the advantages of waiting for newer hardware to revisit the acclaimed PlayStation 4 classic.
"When asked about the possibility of a Bloodborne remake in an interview alongside the Elden Ring DLC announcement, Miyazaki expressed his fondness for the title, stating, 'It is a title we hold very dear and just as much as our fans.' He also expressed his happiness at seeing the continued passion from fans for the game," Miyazaki told Eurogamer.
Regarding the necessity of newer hardware for a potential remake to be worthwhile, Miyazaki pointed to the success of FromSoftware's Demon's Souls remake for the PS5, which leveraged the significant advancements in hardware capabilities compared to its original PS3 release.
"I think having new hardware is definitely a part of what gives these remakes value," Miyazaki said. "Things you weren't able to achieve on previous generations of hardware, ways you weren't able to render specific expressions - [new hardware] sometimes makes it possible."
"However, I wouldn't say that's the be all and end all," Miyazaki continued. "I think purely from a user perspective, modern hardware also allows more players to appreciate all the games. And so, it ends up being a simple reason, but as a fellow player, I think that accessibility is important. I think that can be the driving force between bringing an old game to a new platform."
Regarding the potential release of a Bloodborne remake, regardless of whether it may arrive on either PS5 or PS6, Miyazaki expressed his happiness at the passionate fanbase calling for it.
"I'm very happy to see so many passionate fans calling for a Bloodborne remake to happen," Miyazaki said. While apologizing for being unable to provide specific details about the PS4 exclusive remake, he expressed his excitement at the game's continued response.
"Put simply, it makes me very happy to see it's a title with a lot of specific memories, both for me and the staff who worked on it," he said. "And when we see those passionate voices in the community, of course it makes us feel thrilled, it makes us feel very fortunate to have that and to have those memories."
So, whether a Bloodborne remake is in store remains uncertain. Nonetheless, there's ongoing community interest, with modders like Lance McDonald achieving feats like running Bloodborne at 60fps on a PS5 without upscaling.
Meanwhile, FromSoft has been diligently crafting the Elden Ring expansion "Shadow of the Erdtree," which Miyazaki touted as their most expansive yet. This DLC introduces a fresh map design, blending field areas and traditional dungeons in a novel way.
Expect "Shadow of the Erdtree" to drop on June 21st.
